RFP Staff
♦ Employees at the Salisbury Post are reporting that morale is at an all time low due to Boone Newspapers Inc. downsizing the staff. Many feel put upon by having to do 2 or more jobs for the price of one. Vacation time for long time Post veterans has been scaled back from 4 weeks down to 2 weeks tops. Some folks don’t have anyone to replace them for regular meal breaks because of a lack of manpower on their shifts.
Over 10 days ago we reported the first rounds of staff pruning already took place where former editor Chris Verner was let go along with other top staffers. More employees are expected to be trimmed during the next 60 or so days.
Will the “paper” Post go to 3 times per week for cost cutting sake as the digital age closes in around another small city print dinosaur? Time will tell.
There’s not much staff can do about their dimming fortunes save for gussying up their resumes and searching for work in better atmospheres. Downsizing is painful, yet workers have other options.
Our continued hopes for a better tomorrow for all Post employees as they peel away from the big team or get their pink slips. Times are a changing.
