♦ Salisbury Police charged James Alexander Campbell, 54, of the 1000 block of Short Street in Salisbury, N.C. with felony assault by strangulation, felony second-degree kidnapping, and misdemeanor vandalism to real property. Sunday at 2 a.m. Mr. Campbell is alleged have strangled his girlfriend and forced her from a friend’s house into the street. The strangulation and kidnapping was said to take place at the corner of East Liberty street and MLK, Jr. Ave.
Police were called for a domestic disturbance with the report of a woman forcibly being removed from a house after an argument. Campbell was alleged to have been loudly banging and kicking on a door before he grabbed the woman by the throat and forced her into the street.
Mr. Campbell is still being held in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $20,000 secured bond for the kidnapping. No bond exists for the other offenses.
James Alexander Campbell has record of other convictions including common law robbery, armed robbery, rape, attempt to fail to register as a sex offender. Presently Mr. Campbell is on a year’s probation, after a December conviction for misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
