♦ Mac Butner, a long time Rowan County Republican and real estate man, is tossing his hat in the county commissioner ring and is launching a signature gathering campaign today to gain 4,000 signatures to get on the November ballot as an unaffiliated candidate. Mac has a following in both the city of Salisbury and throughout the county. Well known for his conservatism, humorous quips, and his long service on the Rowan County planning board, Mac views the November campaign as his last hoorah.
“I’m a distinct underdog and in a race against time to get those signatures,” said Mac. “I have no illusions, but I’ve got a lot of friends willing to pitch in and help get those signatures. I just learned the other day from the Board of Elections I was in a position to enter the race. So here I am.”
