Why:                      With more than half of Kangaroo Express stores located within 25 miles of a military installation, supporting our troops and their families is part of the fabric of Kangaroo Express and the communities in which it operates.

Donations will support our military and their families right here through:

  • Fisher House Foundation: Donates “comfort homes,” that enable family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful times – during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease or injury.

o    Local comfort homes include:

  • Naval Hospital in Camp Lejeune
  • Womack Army Medical Center in Fort Bragg

  • American Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces: allows the Red Cross to work on behalf of the American public to ensure that our military personnel get help whenever and where ever they need it – whether it’s resolving a crisis back home or providing care and support if they’re injured.

  • United States Veterans Corps: a corps of military veterans, spouses, dependents and patriotic citizens performing hands on community service with a mission/deployment attitude.

o    In 2013, the SAAF-NC was able to assist hundreds of North Carolina families by providing emergency grants for various financial problems. Among others, funds from the Salute Our Troops campaign have been used for grants to cover rent, clothing, food and gas costs for a soldier seeking a job after a third deployment, funding to support a soldier’s family whose home burned down after he returned from deployment and lodging and fuel expenses when a soldier’s child was diagnosed with a rare disease.

  • USO of North Carolina: The United Services Organizations of North Carolina (USO of NC) is the lead organization charged with supporting military servicemen and women and their families in the state of North Carolina by providing critical services and programs every step of the way, from enlistment, throughout active duty, for wounded, ill and injured and through transition to civilian life.

o    Funds from the 2013 Salute Our Troops campaign, totaling $251,045, helped sustain the resilient transition programs and services provided by the USO of NC and will continue to enhance and grow its current operations over the next year. With five stationary centers statewide, USO of NC served an estimated 651,000 troops in 2013.
