Letter-to-the-Editor: After City Manager Doug Paris’s Reign, Can Salisbury Get Any Worse?

♦ Although the deposed City Manager Doug Paris seems to be the main act in the city’s three ring circus, the entire City Council is just as blame-worthy for the great damage done to the City and its taxpayers during the Paris reign.

I am taxed for rain water running off my roof, outrageous property taxes compared to the limited services I receive, and may yet have to pay more taxes to build bicycle lanes to pacify a small group. Although my taxes supplement bus service to E. Spencer, my recently annexed area does not get this service. I am sure there will be many more taxes and surcharges yet to come, knowing Salisbury and Fibrant’s condition.

Considering the Golden Goose of annexation now being defunct, downtown’s businesses adrift in dire straits, Fibrant being last in the chow line behind Time Warner Cable, AT&T U-Verse and other broadband companies and debt in the many millions, all the city can afford to do is pay the annual 1% interest on its overwhelming debt. Add to this, Moody’s recent bond rating downgrade.

The only options available to the city appears to be more taxation and borrowing from the water and sewage revenue to prop up Fibrant without any plan to reimburse these facilities.

I smell the sewage and it’s backed up all the way city hall.
