♦ Recently it was discovered the city of Salisbury made an application for a $7.37 million loan to re-purpose a run down parking lot in downtown Salisbury (parcel number 0104238). You can read about the application in the “other” paper.

This empty piece of property is owned by Rowan Investment Company, Inc. 121 E Kerr St., Salisbury, NC 28144 Not one word of protest was issued from local “activists”.
However, when the County Commissioners applied for a loan, approximately half this amount, local “activists” exploded in righteous indignation. They wailed and gnashed their teeth complaining that the current commissioners were being irresponsible with tax payer’s money. They insist that the duly elected commissioners not be allowed to fulfill their terms of office. Cries of corruption and demands for investigation erupt from the bowels of downtown Salisbury.
These activists, controlled by the city, wrote nasty accusatory letters to the LGC and the state treasurer office. Amazingly, financially bankrupt Salisbury has the gall to accuse the county of financial improprieties. It seems no one cares to look under the Salisbury carpet to see the millions of dollars of debt.
Our county manager has been praised by the LGC for their successful money management and frugal spending.
We must now respond to the city and their continued waste of money to pad the pockets of a few select city families.
You must demand to know how a city floundering in debt could ask to compound the misery.
How can a city which robs $7.6 million dollars from the water and sewer accounts have the nerve to ask for MILLIONS of more debt?
How much further in the hole will Moody’s drop the city’s bond rating if they add close to 8 million more in debt?
You need to be at the city council meetings. Meetings of the City Council are held the first and third Tuesday of each month at 4:00 p.m. in Council Chambers located at City Hall, 217 South Main Street.
You must act now to point out this obvious hypocrisy. Here are the individuals you must contact ASAP. Personal, face to face contacts are best. Phone calls should be followed up by letters. Emails are ok but not as effective.
You should attempt all of the above if possible.

Then you must start hammering each of the city council members. When they ask where you live, you remind them the COUNTY must pick up the pieces after city hall destroys Salisbury.
