♦ Monday evening Cornerstone Church’s Pastor Bill Godair posted this update on his Facebook page about Tuesday morning’s Press Conference concerning Police Chief Rory Collins:
“I hope and pray that everyone receives this post in the spirit that it’s being written. As a Pastor of a congregation representing 29 different countries/nationalities comes a major responsibility. I love everyone that I pastor not just on Sunday, but everyday. In the past 2 months I have dealt with 5 different families that feel like they where mistreated by the Salisbury Police Dept. In 2013 I feel that I was mistreated by the SPD also.
In the month of July I sent a letter to Mayor Paul Woodson with my concerns and as of yet haven’t heard anything. I also sent my concerns to Council Woman Karen Alexander. Mrs. Alexander sent me a Thank You for my email. I consider Mayor Woodson along with the Council my personal friends.
Since I sent my concern I have received 2 more complaints. On Tuesday at 10 a.m. there will be a Press Conference at Cornerstone Church dealing with what I feel is abuse by the SPD.
Today I have had 2 lengthy conversations with Chief Collins who informed me that he was not aware of the letter that I had sent. He also told me that he would like to meet with those folks that I shared their story. I shared with him that the News Conference would not be happening tomorrow if someone would have reached out. I love the City of Salisbury and I don’t want it to become the next Ferguson. I also love every young man that attends Cornerstone and I refuse to sit back till one of them are no longer with us. The NAACP will be joining me at the Press Conference, because I had sent 3 families to them for help. I give you my word that everything will be done decently and in order. I’m not mad at the Mayor, City Council or the Chief of Police. I’m just a Pastor/Citizen who is concerned.
I’m asking you please do not respond positive or negative to this post. Thank you and I love you.” Pastor Bill Godair, Cornerstone Church
The NAACP is calling for Salisbury Police Chief Rory Collin’s to resignation due complaints of excessive force and misconduct by Salisbury Police officers. The NAACP also is requesting the formation of an independent civilian review board.
Tuesday Morning’s Press Conference will start at 10 a.m. at the Event Center of the Cornerstone Church at 315 Webb Road, Salisbury, N.C.
