♦ Salisbury Police and Fire vehicles responded to a call for a man, wearing headphones, who was struck and killed by an Amtrack train at about 1:20 p.m. The deceased was later identified as Kelly Scott Daniels, 49, of 1028 B South Main St., Salisbury He was walking the tracks in the vicinity of Railroad Avenue and Monroe Street in Salisbury N.C. The Rowan Rescue squad has arrived on the scene to assist in removing the body. Trains are now routed to the opposite tracks. Onlookers are gathering nearby.
Traveling northbound between Knox Street and Military Avenue, the train’s personnel noticed Mr. Daniels walking north on the tracks. The train’s engineer sounded its horn several times as a warning. Mr. Daniels failed to respond. The train did not have enough time to stop before it struck Daniels. He died at the scene.
One of the Amtrack train cars was an educational exhibit concerned with railroad safety rules for youngsters.
