♦ Charlotte-Meck Police arrested Jameel Kenneth “Houdini” Stephens-Maddox, 21, at 9:15 this morning. Stephens-Maddox broke out of his handcuffs at a magistrates office, got over a parking lot fence, and eluded Salisbury Police in Sheriff’s deputies in downtown Salisbury, N.C.
Stephens-Maddox is now held under a $7,000 secured bond for fleeing to elude arrest, assault on a female and two counts of resist, obstruct, delay an officer.
Rowan County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a Park Avenue home on July 9th to serve warrants on Stephens-Maddox. Stephens-Maddox escaped out the back door, but was apprehended at a home at Longview Avenue in Salisbury. Stephens-Maddox was delivered to the Rowan County Magistrate’s Office and handcuffed to a metal pole in the prisoner detainment area while deputies completed paperwork.

Jameel Kenneth Stephens-Maddox, 21, a suspect in a vehicle chase was being booked at the magistrate’s office at 10:30 a.m., when he fled. Mr. Stephens-Maddox ran up a patrol car which he used to clear the fence and disappeared in a full sprint into the downtown Salisbury. The area around Church and Liberty quickly drew swarms Salisbury Police and Deputy Sheriffs. The hunt continues.
Stephens-Maddox from Spencer is described as a black male sporting dreadlocks and attired in a white t-shirt and denim shorts. At the time of his initial booking he had 7 outstanding warrants.

The Stephens-Maddox escape brought immediate security improvements in the holding area. New razor wire fencing was installed at the magistrate’s office five days after his escape.
