♦ Steve Williams, mayor of Huntington, West Virginia makes a plea to area ministers to help deliver his city of drug addiction. He asks that community churches pray together for healing for the drug-addicted, safety for the police as they fight the drugs, and deliverance of the drug dealers from their practices. Many is Salisbury, N.C. are struck by how similar the needs of Mayor Williams’ community is to our own, and hope our city will be unified in their thoughts, prayers, and action for deliverance from drug-driven crime in a city of 28% poverty. For too long we have seen the pox of drugs on Salisbury whether it be on Brick Street, Long Street, Grim or Horah. We commend those such as The Chamber and city’s many meetings for already recognizing what some have denied for too long. We hold Mayor Williams of Huntington up as a man unafraid to speak the truth about his city’s needs and prayerfully ask for change.
Perhaps Mayor Paul Woodson of Salisbury, N.C. would step up and do the same for city battling drink, heroin, crack, and meth?
