♦ Tuesday afternoon the Rowan County Commissioners approved Aaron Church as their new county manager replacing retiring Gary Page.
The announcement came immediately after a brief closed session involving 4 of the 5 commissioners (Commissioner Chad Mitchell recused himself because he applied for the position) and a vote by the commissioners to approve Mr. Church who was the Yadkin County Manager.
Immediately after the approval vote County Chairman Jim Sides called for a short recess for Mr. Church to sign the County Manager’s contract said to be $125,000 plus moving expenses up to $1,000.
Aaron Church served as the Yadkin County Manager since June 2010. Prior to that position Mr. Church was Yadkin County’s Deputy County Manager.
Mr. Church grew up in Wilkes and Surry Counties in North Carolina. He and his wife Erica have three children.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Religion and Philosophy from Appalachian State University.
Mr. Church also achieved a Master of Public Administration in Public Management from Appalachian State University.
The new Rowan County Manager has over 8 years experience in local, state, and federal government. Mr. Church work experience includes:
• Working as in intern, prior to graduate school, for the North Wilkesboro Police Department.
• Spending a year as a consultant for the North Carolina Employment Security Commission.
• Serving as a congressional aide for two years for U.S. Congresswoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC 5th Distirct)
• Working for three years in Burke County as the Assistant to the County Manager prior to taking the Deputy Manager’s job in Yadkin County.
