♦ Aaron Church, who served as the Yadkin County Manager for the past five years, has accepted the Rowan County Manager position beginning October 1, 2014 stated, “I am truly humbled and honored to have the opportunity to work with the Rowan County Board of Commissioners and county staff.”
Church was named Yadkin County Manager in June 2010, after serving as Deputy County Manager. During Church’s tenure, he helped transform Yadkin County into one of the most transparent counties in the state. The County has achieved many successes during his time here, most notably the completion of the Hood-Chamberlin Dam that has created Lake Hampton and the opportunity for the Yadkin Memorial Park that is positioned on its banks (opening this fall). The new Yadkin County Detention Center was another one of the major projects that Church guided in his time in Yadkin.
“I have enjoyed working with Yadkin County’s elected officials, dedicated employees, and citizens over the past five years,” Church said. “With the strong, cohesive Board of Commissioners’ leadership and talented personnel I am confident that Yadkin County will continue to grow in a positive manner.”
Church began working in public service after graduating from Appalachian State University, where he received both his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and Master of Public Administration Degrees. He worked with the North Carolina Employment Security Commission as a consultant, then as a congressional aide before beginning his work in county administration in Burke County as the Assistant to the County Manager. Church accepted the Deputy County Manager position with Yadkin County in 2009.
Church was honored by Yadkin County Farm Bureau in 2012 receiving the Distinguished Service to Agriculture Award for his work on procuring grant funds for the Yadkin County Agricultural Center that is now in the beginning building stages. He has demonstrated his strong commitment to the community through work on several regional and local boards.
“He has been a driving force for quality work and high standards in Yadkin County” stated Chairman Kevin Austin of the Yadkin County Board of Commissioners. “I am happy for him to have this opportunity, his leadership has been one of the key components in our successes these past few years.”
