♦ Economic development in Cabarrus County added yet another giant trophy as Amazon.com decided to open it first North Carolina distribution in Concord, N.C. The emperor of online retail will occupy approximately 222,500 square feet in one of the Silverman Group shell buildings now under construction at the Concord Airport Business Park. This Amazon.com distribution center will provide same day service to Rowan and Cabarrus counties.
The Amazon.com facility is believed to open a package sorting operation in the Concord building in November and is already posting four openings for professional jobs on the corporation’s website.
The Concord distribution center will likely hire between 100 to 200 employees and is expected to pay approximately 30% above minimum wage. Prior to the opening of Concord distribution center, the nearest Amazon shipping center was in Spartanburg, S.C. The opening of the Concord facility will speed delivery time to markets within 250 miles of Concord.
The new distribution center will mean cost savings for Amazon.com as they bypass more expensive private shippers to make use of their current agreement with the United. States Postal Service.
Another awesome economic win for Cabarrus County!
