♦ Saturday evening the “Take Back Our Youth & Stop the Violence March” walked along Long Street from Salisbury, N.C. to East Spencer, drawing knots of waving and cheering onlookers.  Organized by Tiffini Simpson Long, the march attracted several dozen publically-spirited residents concerned with the surge of gang violence, drugs, and young people with few constructive activities in Salisbury.  Youngsters at the front end of the march chanted: “Hold your hands up–Don’t shoot!  Hold your hands up–Don’t Shoot!”

Area activists present were NAACP President Scott Teamer, Tiffini  Simpson Long, Alex Clark, Russell Swilley, Kenneth Lydell Fox-Muhammad, and Marlon Hash. Local youngsters participated in this community event.  A short program of speakers followed.
