♦ At the Rowan Free Press we want to extend our congratulations to the lone National Merit Scholarship finalist in Rowan County this year: Matthew F. Jones, a homeschooled student from Salisbury, N.C. Matthew F. Jones is one of 16,000 semifinalists for the National Merit Scholarship. Finalists continue in this prestigious competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth about $33 million dollars to be offered next spring.
Matthew is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Jones of Salisbury, N.C.
