♦ Stop the Silence NC is hosting their second annual Anti-Bullying Community Rally September 27th, 2014
The rally will be the first Bullying Awareness Festival that downtown Salisbury has ever had. The day of the rally is also a special day for many in rowan county. It is the one year anniversary of Daniel Safrits passing.
Spokesperson and founder of Stop the Silence Mrs. Bailey says this concerning the reason for choosing this date:
“After much thought concerning how to best celebrate Daniel’s life and after talking with Daniels mother we all agreed that having our rally this year on the anniversary of Daniels passing was the best way to not only honor his life and memory but also a great way to spread awareness. Even though the day will bring great emotions for those of us who knew Daniel and those of us close to Daniels family, The day of the rally will be a great way to create new and wonderful memories for that day that Daniel would have loved to experience. We do not want it to be a day of crying and grieving but a day of remembrance and awareness for what things can be if we do not continue to act now to put an end to this epidemic that is plaguing our county and our children.”
The special musical guests are from Southern California. The band Galvanized Souls is traveling 3,000 miles to help put an end to bullying in Rowan County. Galvanized Souls will be headlining for the Rally. Their press release is available upon request.

Along with many other festival type attractions such as food, vendors, resources, games, activities for the kids etc, a special guest speaker from Michigan. Colin from Colin’s Friends will be talking to youth in Rowan County about his experiences with bullying and be an example of how things can get better when people rally together and stand in support for those who are victims.
Colin is a 11 year old boy who became a viral explosion and appeared on national news media featuring his story. For his birthday Colin’s mother asked him “Whats your wish for your birthday?”
Colin’s response “I wish I had friends.”
It was at this point that Colin’s mother created a facebook page that would be a surprise that the family wasn’t expecting. The facebook page quickly went viral and now has over 2 million likes. The wonderful change of events spiraled from there with GMA revealing the surprise for Colin and sending him and the family to Disney World. Several other national morning shows featured Colin’s story and his family.
The support continued when Galvanized Souls saw Colin’s story and decided to feature Colin and his family in their music video for their song “Carry On”. Which was also featured on several national media morning shows.
