♦ One of the outstanding weapons in the fight against crime is the “anonymous tip” and the anonymous tip hotline frequently called in many cities “Crime Stoppers”. The anonymous tip protects the tipsters identity from harm and vendetta. Make no mistake persons who turn in major crimes like drug dealing and murders can be gunned down, car bombed, or have their houses torched as a payback. If a criminal learns you snitched on them you are marked goods. That is why many people fear for their lives and won’t go to law enforcement.
Many unsolved crimes get solved mainly because an anonymous someone steps up and provides important information, leads, and evidence about that crime leading eventually to arrest and conviction.
If you resort to going anonymous, make sure what you tell the police is solid and backed up by as much evidence as possible otherwise you risk wasting law enforcement’s limited time.
