♦ On Monday County Commission candidate Chris Cohen refused to sign the petition posted below to block the county from obtaining a special-use permit for governmental uses for the West End Plaza through Superior Court.

The West End Plaza was purchased to be a “repurposed mall” with the idea of it being utilized for much needed inexpensive government office and storage space as well as mixed use retail, restaurant, and other suitable projects.  Allowing the West End Plaza to flourish as “repurposed mall” will save county taxpayers millions over new construction for years to come as well as keep its surrounding West End neighborhood alive.

Those who misguidedly attempt to block the special use permit for governmental purposes with this ill-advised petition are following orders from those who turned Downtown Salisbury into seedy ghost town, blocked the  city’s economic progress for over a decade, and turned Salisbury, N.C. into Areavibes.com’s 330rd ranked city/town in North Carolina.
