♦ Antowane Dennis Koontz, 35, of the 100 block of East Horah Street in Salisbury, N.C. was arrested and charged with felony assault inflicting serious bodily injury. Koontz alleged target Wednesday at 1 p.m. was a woman near the 300 block of South Lee and East Horah streets. Koontz was seen starting a conversation with a woman prior to abruptly knocking her down and repeatedly punching her senseless. Several neighbors attempted to halt the fray. Finally Koontz returned to his home where he was soon arrested.
The victim was transported to Novant Rowan Medical Center. She sustained severe bruising, a disfigured eye-socket, cuts to her face, head, and arms, and remains in the hospital.
Koontz, is under a $15,000 secured bond and is locked up in the Rowan County Detention Center.
In 1999 he was convicted of attempted second-degree rape, statutory rape and indecent liberties with a child. He has also been convicted of misdemeanor assault on a female and resisting arrest.
In 2004 Koontz was convicted of possession with intent to sell a schedule VI substance and in 2008 he was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and possession with intent to sell a schedule II substance.
