♦On Monday at 5 PM the Rowan County Commissioners and the School Board will resume the budget mediation at the County Commissioner’s chambers on the 2nd floor of the J. Newton Cohen Sr. Rowan County Administration Building at 131 W. Innes St. in Salisbury. Mediator Willis Whichard will oversee Monday’s budget mediation slated to go into closed-session. This is the fifth such meeting between the two bodies since July 1st and is intended to fulfill a North Carolina statute for counties and school boards to resolve funding disputes outside of the courts.
Earlier Monday the Rowan County Commission will conduct their regular meeting at 3 PM. It is their first meeting since the Federal District Court issued an injunction to halt sectarian prayer and many are interested in seeing how the Rowan County Commissioners respond. Monday the prayer rotation calls on Commissioner Jon Barber to lead the prayer. However, an alternative prayer plan, involving chaplains, may be put in place.
