Letter-to-the-Editor: Communication Between the GOP Executive Committee and Their 3 Board of Education Candidates?

Chuck Hughes, Salisbury, N.C:

♦ There seems to have been a serious lack of communication between the GOP Executive Committee and the three Board of Education candidates. This is my understanding of events: The $3000 spent on the “carnival cards” printed independent of communication with the candidates were to be paid for by a third party as donations in kind. The third party backed out after the cards were printed. Instead of paying for the defunct agreement with the third party, those who committed to the printing without approval of the Chair, came to him for the money. In the end, they were paid for, but not from the party who initially committed or out of GOP funds. The generous in-kind donation came from someone who does not want me to mention his name.

While the “Golden Opportunity” cards were being printed, either without the knowledge of the candidates or because they thought they were to “busy” and looked more like a carnival ad then a political ad, which one I do not know, Dean Hunter, Travis Allen, and Phil Hardin sent out very professional looking cards. These cards are also being handed out at the polls with one modification. The back of the cards now have a sticker with “CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATES Supported by the Republican Party – ITS TIME FOR A CHANGE” in red between two elephant photos. One or more of the three candidates paid upwards of $3000 out of their pocket for this printing.

Had there been communication between the Chair, the Executive Committee and the candidates, at least $3000 of someone’s money could have been saved.

The Democrat’s poll workers also out number the conservative workers by at least 5:1 margin and that is not counting the candidates who are also there. They will also have at least double coverage at all of the precincts on Tuesday while we are struggling to get even single coverage at only 19 or so sites.

Just salt on the wound – I was at Office Depot at 6:00 this afternoon to get more back of the card stickers. They were not able to accommodate me until tomorrow afternoon because they were in the process of printing 22,000 cards with the red beret on top of a smiley face with the names of their preferred CC candidates; Gene Miller, Greene and a third whose name I do not recall other than it was not a Klusman, an Edds or any of the others the downtown PACs threw under the bus after they served their purpose in the primary, in one column and the incumbent members of the Board of Education in the other.

If we should lose the Board of Education because of lack of conservative participation and ultimate turnout at the polls, please do not trouble yourselves to pack the Board of Education meeting room when the “old board” genuflects to the next threat of legal action from the Freedom From Religion Foundation. And THEY WILL threaten! And the vote to forfeit Bible Study WILL BE the same 5-2 that we have lived with over the past two years! I’m just sayin’.

But we shouldn’t worry. After all we have $300 in the bank?
