♦ Concerned parents report a student brandishing a large boning knife, used by butchers, and wearing a rubber clown mask at West Rowan Middle School just before 8 p.m.
Students were terror-struck and screaming as a 14 year old white male waved the 10 inch knife in their direction and advanced toward them. A school resource officer on duty at the time reacted swiftly. He warned the teen to drop the butcher knife, but the student failed to give much response. School Resource Officer Lindly pulled a baton from his belt and struck the teen 3 times in the forearm before the teen released the knife and backed down before he was handcuffed.
A search of the knife-wielding student’s backpack turned up a second 10 inch butcher’s knife.
The student was shortly removed from the school’s premises in handcuffs and is said to be on his way to be evaluated by mental health professionals and have his forearm x-rayed for a possible injur
Many students were disturbed by what they witnessed this morning. It is not known at this time if they will receive counseling.
No lockdown was initiated. No students were reported injured.
