♦ A pair of wannabe thieves breezed into M & L Mini Stop about 2 p.m. Saturday located on 1126 N. Main Street in Salisbury. Carrying a backpack, the pair immediately drew the cashier’s suspicions. Described as thin black male teenagers, both about 5’4, wearing black hoodies and obscuring their faces with white scarves, the duo were noticed lurking just out-of-sight behind store displays away from the counter. The cashier began to question the two about what they were doing.  They answered they were checking their money to see if they had enough.

The cashier made wary by the pairs behavior heard the sound of a backpack being unzipped.  Immediately he stepped around the counter and demanded to check their backpack.  The two refused, becoming loud and belligerent moments before as a regular customer entered M & L and became involved.  The cashier slipped behind the customer and immediately locked the door.

The thieves began tearfully pleading to be let go while the customer and the cashier snatched up the backpack and examined it to find a loaded .410 sawed-off shotgun.  A this point the thieves high-tailed it out the door, one on foot and the other fleeing on a bicycle.  The Salisbury Police were called.

Information is sought about the M & L Mini Stop incident.  Please call the Salisbury Police Department at 704-638-5333 or call Rowan-Salisbury Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5235.
