♦ At the most recent City Council meeting Robert Van Geons of RowanWorks optimistically reported that Salisbury, N.C. now only suffers from 23% poverty still an extremely discouraging statistic and a real turnoff to families and businesses considering Salisbury as a possible place to set down roots.
A perusal of the U.S. Census Bureau 2013 Quick Facts estimate rates Salisbury, N.C. as among the top most impoverished cities in North Carolina (What most businesses review when they examine Salisbury):

Cities suffering from 18% to 21% poverty are said to be on the “mortuary table” or are not even worthy of an autopsy.
Coupled with Salisbury’s high violent and property crime rate (murders, shootings, and violence appeared to skyrocket in 2014) and Salisbury’s public schools with their exceedingly poor composite scores on the most recently recorded state education READY Report, Salisbury is a hard sell to families and business to either remain or to relocate.
