♦ Every so often the big roulette wheel in the sky comes up bad for a bandito. A gunman tried his luck at the South Main Internet Café Thursday in the badlands of Salisbury and had his .38 Rossi snatched from a counter and fired at him. This scene went down at 10 p.m. Thursday in the 900 block of South Main near Rick’s BBQ. What’s a robber to do? It was as female cashier that turned the tables and sadly will soon be looking for employment due to N.C. General Statute GS. 14-306.4 recently served on the South Main Cafe’s owners.
The gunman, after sizing up what he thought would be easy-pickings, entered the South Main Internet Café and ordered the customers to the deck and the cashier to turn loose the money. The clerk obliged, opening the register, but the ballgame changed when the robber fumbled the cash, scattering some on the floor. The robber hollered for everyone to stay down and ordered the clerk to fetch the money.
In a greedy ill-thought move the bandit laid his .38 revolver on the counter and went to the floor to gather up the cash. No good. The cashier grabbed the .38 and aimed it at the robber who thought now of survival and lit out the door toward the railroad tracks. Behind him he heard the sharp crack of his former revolver.
The bandit scored an estimated $700 plus bucks for his troubles and is still at large. The police are hunting for a black male, wearing a dark coat, jeans, and a black bandanna.
Apparently luck changed for the owners of the South Main Café as they have been ordered to cease and desist operations earlier this week by Chief Collins of the Salisbury Police. As many of our readers are well aware this type of internet gambling operation is outlawed by state statutes and have been written about in the Rowan Free Press. See the RFP article posted below.
The cashier has proven her worth and comes with the Rowan Free Press’s recommendation. Best of luck in finding a job, but being quick witted and turning tables on a bandit in a lethal situation shows a certain work ethic.
If anyone has information about this robbery they are urged to contact the Salisbury Police at 704-638-5333 or the Salisbury-Rowan Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245.
