♦As we’ve learned, the General Assembly sets the base pay for teachers across North Carolina; local governments may increase that amount. These local governments also determine the rates at which their school administrators and other central office personnel are ultimately paid.
What follows are the salaries (not including monthly healthcare, pension and social security benefits) for each superintendent, by school district. For some perspective, the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, June Atkinson, receives $124,676 in annual salary (not including benefits).
The following information is based off payroll data from February 2013 and was provided by the non-partisan staff of the Fiscal Research Division of the North Carolina General Assembly:
