♦ At this very moment police and law enforcement agencies across the United States need to be aware that an incendiary situation prevails in many urban areas of the United States. A powder keg, with a short-fuse, is sitting waiting to be lit since Ferguson, Mo and Mr. Garner’s chokehold death in New York. The very next incident of excessive force could set off a rampage of arson, looting, and murder of 1960’s proportion.
At the moment cooler heads prevail in our peaceful protests. But a breakpoint could be reached in short order. While I’m well aware the overwhelming majority of well-trained law enforcement officers will never resort to excessive force or brutality, there are always a small number of officers with poor impulse control and personality issues who will “act out” in a tight situation. These people need to be taken aside and be put on notice they best never employ excessive force. For the betterment of all concerned “challenged” officers need to be weeded out of police departments everywhere.
That powder keg with a short fuse sits in the corner as the clock across America keeps ticking. One more incident could fire up an extremely dangerous situation.
Know that peaceful well-planned protests get a message across. Arson, looting, and random payback killings completely obscure that message and create a deeper breach of alienation and stereotypy.
Do the right thing.
