♦ The Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education will meet at 5 P.M. at the Administrative Offices at 110 S. Long Street in East Spencer.
On Monday newly elected school board members Travis Allen and Dean Hunter will be “seated” on the board along with Chuck Hughes, Josh Wagner, Jean Kennedy, Susan Cox, and Richard Miller. After the seating, Josh Wagner is odds on favorite to be elected school board Chairman along with Dean Hunter as Vice-Chair.
Highlights of Monday’s school board agenda are:
• An update on Heilig Rd. property that may be donated to the Rowan-Salisbury Schools.
• A much anticipated discussion about the options concerning how the board of education might be videoed or broadcast for increased meeting transparency.
• A discussion board of education committees and who will serve on them.
• A discussion about roof repairs valued at approximately $136,000 for school buildings throughout Rowan County.
• The school board will “read” several policies to make certain they are aligned with state education polices.
• A discussion about possibly the possible hiring a grant writer or contracting a grant writing service.
• A review of the 2014-2015 school year calendar prior to possibly signing a resolution promoting more local control of school calendars.
