♦ Ronnie Paul Godbey, 49, co-owner of Sweet Pea’s Consignment Shop on 801 Jake Alexander Blvd. in Salisbury, N.C., was convicted Tuesday of felony indecent liberties with a child and will spend between 16 and 20 months in the N.C. Department of Adult Corrections. Godbey and his wife own Sweat Pea’s Consignment shop, which claims to have the largest selection of children’s clothing in Rowan County. They also sell baby equipment and women’s clothing.

Prior to yesterday’s conviction, Godbey, resided on the 3600 block of Long Ferry Road, was charged with felony statutory rape, indecent liberties with children, and first degree sex offense of a child, but was acquitted of all the charges save for a single count of indecent liberties with a child. Godbey is said to have molested the youngster starting in 2001 when she was 9 years old and the molestation continued through the victim’s late teens.

Godbey was initially charged in the case back in 2012 after a family friend contacted law enforcement. In 2012 Godley was arrested, yet the molestation incidents continued into the victim’s late teens.

Godbey will now be a registered sex offender.
