Press Release/N.C. Office of the Governor

♦ Raleigh, N.C. Governor Pat McCrory, N.C. Commerce Secretary Sharon Decker and the Economic Development Partnership of N.C. announced today that Agility Fuel Systems is locating a regional headquarters and a state of the art production facility in Rowan County and will create 149 new jobs over the next three years. The company plans to invest $7.5 million in Salisbury.

“Agility Fuel Systems is a great addition to North Carolina’s growing transportation-related industry,” said Governor McCrory.  “Agility will be in a great position to serve the Eastern United States by having its regional headquarters and production facility here in North Carolina.”

Agility Fuel Systems is headquartered in Santa Ana, CA and develops safe, reliable and cost-effective natural gas systems for heavy trucks and buses. Agility has been in business for 18 years and has more than 25,000 trucks on the road, logging 1.5 billion miles per year.  The company’s Rowan County facility will serve as a regional headquarters for the East Coast.

“As we continue pursuing cutting-edge companies, Agility Fuel Systems is a great fit,” said Secretary Decker. “North Carolina provides a solid workforce and perfect location for this c0mpany to expand its footprint on the East Coast.”

Salaries will vary by job but will include management, warehouse workers and assemblers.  The average annual salary will be $37,761.  The average annual salary for Rowan County is $36,902.

“We are really pleased to announce that our new world class production facility will be located in Salisbury, North Carolina, where we will be able to access a well-qualified workforce and be strategically located to serve our customers,”   said Barry Engle, Agility’s president and CEO. “We would like to thank Governor Pat McCrory, Secretary Sharon Decker, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, the Rowan County Board of Commissioners, Robert Van Geons, Executive Director of RowanWORKS, and Duke Energy, for their efforts to bring Agility Fuel Systems to North Carolina.  We are committed to making this relationship a win-win-win for the State of North Carolina, Rowan County and our company.”

The project was made possible in part by a performance-based grant from the One North Carolina Fund of up to $300,000. The One NC Fund provides financial assistance, through local governments, to attract business projects that will stimulate economic activity and create new jobs in the state. Companies receive no money up front and must meet job creation and investment performance standards to qualify for grant funds. These grants also require and are contingent upon local matches.

“These new jobs are great news for Rowan County,” said Senator Andrew Brock.  “Agility Fuel Systems has made a great decision in choosing North Carolina for its East Coast headquarters.”

“Agility Fuel Systems will be a great addition to Rowan County’s economy,” said Representative Harry Warren.  “I look forward to being one of the first to welcome the company to our community and to North Carolina.”

In addition to the N.C. Department of Commerce and the Economic Development Partnership of N.C., other partners that helped with this project include: North Carolina Community College System, Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, Duke Energy, Rowan County and RowanWORKS, Economic Development.
