♦ Salisbury Police were busy Wednesday morning raiding 3 Salisbury Internet cafes and shutting them down. All three previously received warning letters from the Salisbury Police and the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, citing G.S. 14-306.4, a state general statute prohibiting electronic devices for sweepstakes gaming. The warning called for the mandatory closing of the electronic gaming establishments by January 1st of 2015. The letters informed the establishments owners that they faced having their equipment confiscated.
Closed during the raids were the South Main Internet Café on 917 S. Main St, Circle S Depot at 1812 E. Innes St., and Hot Spot III at 1945 W. Jake Alexander Blvd.
While no one in any of the 3 Internet cafes were charged, the 3 owners may face citations later. Computer equipment and an undisclosed amount of cash were seized from all 3 Internet cafes.
