♦ It came as a shock to me when I learned earlier this week that what once was one of the very worst cities in North Carolina, Lumberton turned itself around and in less than 6 years passed Salisbury by. I would’ve never thought that possible. But facts are facts. Lumberton is a far better place to live with lower rates of crime, higher per capita income, more amenities, better schools, more jobs, better shopping, a nicer looking downtown with far more character to offer than Sleeze Bury.
While I doubt Lumberton will ever be called a destination in our lifetime, it sure hasn’t become the Dodge City of North Carolina like “kill or be killed” Salisbury or is it being rocked by anything like Salisbury’s seismic meth, heroin, or crack “pandemic”. Salisbury’s violence and drug lab schools with their “super bad” academics are no measure for Lumberton’s average schools.
Lumberton is not afraid to use a wrecking ball or a bulldozer to get rid of it’s obsolete buildings. Lumberton did not get punked into blowing all their money on some numbskull fiber optic network to “lure” business.
Go check out Lumberton–you will be in for shocker. It doesn’t have any phony Salisbury “historic charm”–it has livable substance. A place where you can hang your hat now without worrying about a bullet with your name on it, having your backdoor kicked in and your children carted off to the woods near Town Creek Commons.
“Lumberton is the place”
