Letter-to-the-Editor: Gross Underreporting of the Crime and Violence Statistics in the Rowan-Salisbury Schools

♦ While the Rowan Free Press is entirely accurate on the crime and violence statistics for the Rowan-Salisbury School System as reported by the website of the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, there’s an old saying: “Garbage in–garbage out”.  The Rowan-Salisbury Schools, like many governmental entities in the area, have a long and glorious history of covering up anything that looks bad to the public. Those crime and violence statistics are grossly underreported by the schools–that fact is known to many parents, teachers, and school resource officers.  If someone really did an in depth inquiry into lets say North Rowan High School and Salisbury High School they would soon find out about the school system’s habits of covering up “incidents”.  Both those schools have many more incidents involving fights, “students” packing weapons, threats, bullying, drugs, lockdowns–you name it.  The schools inside of Salisbury especially underreport and these incidents are seldom written about in the local print media or show up on TV. (Yesterday the local print media tried to negate the crime and violence statistics by reporting them as percentages as per 100 students.  Seriously)

We wouldn’t want to soil the image of the Rowan-Salisbury schools. Not that those “D” grades given each school in system were warning shots across the bow.

It is no small wonder why parents send their youngsters to private schools or home school them.  The truth is many of those middle schools and high schools, especially in Salisbury, are danger zones.  Think about it. The areas these schools serve are dangerous–the schools are nasty reflections of those areas.  Let’s not sugar coat what is going down.

I will spare you my personal thoughts about teachers in Rowan-Salisbury Schools taking concealed carry classes and then conceal carry in the schools.
