Letter-to-the-Editor: Business Owners Prefer to Spend on Their Own Businesses instead Historic Preservation Tax Credits

♦ Most everybody I know is sick of Susan Kluttz galivanting around the state on our taxpayers bucks to promote forcing businessmen, who prefer to spend their money on their own businesses, to waste their tax money on Historic Preservation Tax Credits for municipal “favorites”.  It’s alleged the Wallaces got over a million bucks in tax credits to “historically” renovate their mansion. Certainly they could’ve afforded doing that renovation on their own dime.  Think of all those people and businessmen across the state who helped gift one of the wealthiest families left in the Bury.  Such abuses are prevalent all over Salisbury among the “chosen” and one of the reasons the state legislators and the State Senators should again ice Historic Preservation Tax Credits.  Preferably forever.

I was so glad when our Republican legislature eliminated those Historic Preservation Tax Credit loopholes on January 1st in an effort to cut taxes for EVERYBODY.  Cutting out such loopholes cuts taxes for everybody across the board which creates jobs and gives us poor taxpayers more money to spend.  Seriously who wants loopholes for special interests especially Historic Preservationists probably the most loathed and self-absorbed group in all of Salisbury.  Who hasn’t suffered in Salisbury under their tyranny and codes?  Their entitlement knows no bounds.

When loopholes for special interest groups get toasted, it cuts taxes for everyone.

Why would I or anyone else want to pay more taxes so some entitled porker can renovate their hacienda?  The rest of us common schleps have to pay for our own home renovations.

When Susan Kluttz is out shilling for her special interest pals she’s always spouting off about all the so-called millions the Historic Preservation people invest in our Downtowns?  Where is the actual real world independent research?  It’s just more hooey from one more special interest group trying to corral other people’s money.

The funny thing is all those dozens of vacant Downtown junk shops and restaurants were just about all historic renovations.  In another few years, as more and more people escape the Bury, many of those so-called historic houses will be subdivided into cheap apartments and rooms where meth heads and heroin junkies will be bedding down.  The times are a changing in the Bury.  It won’t be reversed.  Get used to it.

A whole lot of people in Salisbury have an unbridled distain for the historic preservationists with their codes which they only apply to those outside their circle. Personally I would rather see investment in modern construction instead of those tricked up old houses.

I will be will be thrilled when the bulldozers start hammering the Empire Hotel into landfill and the Shober Bridge is demolished by the Norfolk-Southern.  That step forward will come way too late for the Bury.
