♦ At the Salisbury Walmart Super Center, Salisbury’s largest chain retailer and by far the most targeted store for shoplifters in Rowan County, a legend was born this weekend.  Rashad Anthony Wright, 16, of Old Wilkesboro Road in Salisbury with allegedly no sign of shoplifting quit in him returned for his 3rd straight day of “shopping bliss” at the Walmart Super Center.  Monday morning the teen’s luck ran out.  Wright was arrested and charged with 2 charges of larceny (misdemeanor), first degree trespassing (misdemeanor), 2nd degree trespassing (misdemeanor), assault on a government official (misdemeanor), and resist/obstruct/delay a public officer (misdemeanor).

Under a $10,000 secured bond, Wright sits with a sore butt in the Rowan County Detention Center where he is recovering from a Taser barb being removed by his buttocks this morning. His first court hearing is slated for March 24th.

Wright previously banned from Walmart for shoplifting did not let that dampen his alleged weekend “shopping spree”.  In a review of security camera footage by the store’s loss prevention personnel they noticed Wright helping himself to items around 6 a.m. Saturday. “The early bird catches the worm!”  It is said Wright placed Trojan lubricant, a hairbrush, and Bluetooth speakers into his jacket before he purchased a bag of potato chips at the register and left the store.

A little over an hour later Wright returned to Walmart when loss prevention told him he was banned from the premises. Wright told them he forgot his jacket in the store.

Come Sunday, Wright was back in the Super Center where loss prevention observed the teen pilfer assorted snacks, a bicycle inner tube from sporting goods, and a backpack.  He was seen stuffing the items through a hole behind a shelf in the garden section.  Immediately he left the store and loaded the items from the hole into a shopping cart.  Wright soon placed the shoplifted items into canvas bags and walked out of the parking lot.

On Monday morning Wright returned bright and early at 5 a.m. for the 3rd day in a row of spirited “shopping”. He was observed grazing the Sporting Goods section.  Promptly the Salisbury Police were called while loss prevention watched Wright’s every move.  When officers arrived they confronted Wright who abruptly spun, shoved an officer, and took off running through the front door toward a wooded area, but not before he was Tasered.

A short time later a police K-9 tracked Wright to his hiding place behind a building on the 500 block of Harrel Street where he was handcuffed.  Police removed a Taser barb from Wright’s buttocks.
