♦ Today was sentencing day in Federal Court in Winston-Salem and the Parson’s got theirs. Casey Parsons received 10 years in prison and her husband Sandy got 8 years. Casey also has to pay the governments $48,814 in restitution Previously the Parsons were convicted of defrauding the government for accepting Federal adoption assistance payments, yet were never charged with Erica’s disappearance.
Judge Thomas Schroeder told the Parsons Friday morning: “I’ve sentenced over a thousand people, but I can’t think of a case that disturbed me more.” Later he called the Casey and Sandy Parsons sinister and that they embarked on a plan to get rid of Erica.
Judge Schroeder said, based on February’s testimony, he believed Erica Parsons adoptive parents abandoned the teenager’s body in November 2011. During February’s testimony family members testified the Parsons forced the missing teenager to eat dog food and broke her fingers as well as remain in a closet for lengthy periods of time. Children in the family regularly abused the sickly and malnourished teen.
Erica Parsons was 13 years old when she vanished–today she would’ve been 17 years old.
Erica’s story should serve as a firm reminder to always report child abuse.
