♦ Erica Kristen McCarter, 23, of Field Crest Drive in Statesville was charged with driving while impaired and aggravated felony death by vehicle in a Sunday morning crash on Mount Tabor Church Road near Cleveland, N.C. The accident resulted in the death of McCarter’s passenger Devin Joseph Dimisa who was hurled from the vehicle upon impact.
McCarter was examined on the scene by NC Highway Patrolmen who reported her as performing unsatisfactorily on 2 sobriety tests and that her actions and speech were impaired. McCarter indicated she took Norco, a acetaminophen/hydrocodone form of “hillbilly heroin”, for pain relief and Xanax within a several hour span of consuming one or two beers. She was reported to have passed out in the Highway Patrol Car.
McCarter has a previous criminal and drunk driving record going back to 2013. This year she faces charges in Iredell County for a DWI, a hit and run, and driving left of center. She is on probation for being a part of a metal theft ring that “worked” Rowan, Cabarrus, and Iredell Counties. In that case McCarter was charged with 5 counts of breaking and entering (felony), obtaining property under false pretense, larceny of a firearm, 9 counts of larceny, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of drugs (marijuana).
In today’s arrest McCarter was placed under a secured $100,000 bond and is currently being held in the Rowan County Detention Center.
