♦ Today Kevin Lamont Canzater, 22, pleaded guilty to the murder of Z&H Mart Owner Hecham Abuleninan, a much beloved figure in his community. Canzator, a Salisbury native, will spend from 18 years to 22 years of his life in prison instead of facing the death penalty for the December 10th, 2012 robbery-murder at the Mooresville Road mart. Canzanter was also convicted for 3 counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon (felony) occurring prior to the Z&H robbery-murder. Canzater joined accomplices Christopher Watson and Maurice Robinson in 2 robberies in November and December at the Horah Street “Neighborhood Market” in Salisbury’s West End.
In January, Christopher Watson, 25, the Z&H triggerman, pleaded guilty to the murder of Hecham Abuleninan and received a life sentence in lieu of the death penalty as a result of a plea bargain.
An alleged accomplice in the Z&H murder-robbery, Maurice Robinson, is slated to go to trial. Robinson is said to have walked out of Z&H prior to the entry of triggerman Christopher Watson who fired a warning shot prior to shooting Abuleninan in the head when he reached for a phone.
The day following the Z&H murder, Canzater and Robinson turned themselves in when they saw themselves pictured on video cam stills on TV.
