♦ Delbert Dean Roys, 46, and his wife Christie Michelle Roys, 47, of 255 Edgewood Road Farm Road in Salisbury were arrested by deputies from the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office and are allegedly involved with a sizable scheme to obtain prescription narcotics. The couple’s arrest resulted from a stop by the N.C. State Highway Patrol on Northbound I-85.
The Roys were under investigation by a joint task force bring together the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office, the Thomasville Police Department, the Kannapolis Police Department, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, and the Gaston County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation alleges that since August of last year the Roys created fraudulent prescriptions for oxycodone, hydrocodone, alprazolam (Xanax), Estradiol, and fraudulently using physicians’ names from Charlotte, Huntersville, and Kannapolis. These fraudulent prescriptions were being passed in Salisbury, Granite Quarry, Rockwell, China Grove, Kannapolis and Charlotte.
When the Roys got arrested in Rowan, they also were on probation in Oklahoma where outstanding arrest warrants existed for Christie Michelle Roys for check fraud and obtaining controlled substances by fraud.
Delbert Dean Roys was charged with 2 counts of conspiracy to traffic opium/heroin, and 3 counts of obtaining controlled substances (oxycodone and alprazolam) by fraud.
Under a secured bond for $500,000, Delbert Roys is currently in the Rowan County Detention center.
Charged in Rowan, Cabarrus, and Mecklenburg counties, Christie Roys faces 5 counts of trafficking opium/heroin, 1 count of attempt to traffic opium/heroin; 8 counts of obtaining controlled substances by fraud, 3 counts of attempt to obtaining controlled substances by fraud; 4 counts of possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver controlled substances, and 3 counts of possession with intent to sell or deliver a controlled substances within 1000 feet of a school (Granite Quarry Elementary).
Christie is currently in the Rowan County Detention Center under a secured bond of $510.000.
