♦ On Monday a fight broke out between two Copart Auto Salvage employees a distance from the Copart auction yard at a site on 245 Madison Road in China Grove. Kabruim Carnell Stewart, 28, of West 14th Street in Salisbury, was arrested for stabbing coworker Fabian Lamarr Maura, 31, of Concord in the back with an industrial box cutter. This left the victim with a deep wound near his spinal column and in serous enough condition to be transported by EMS to the Carolinas Medical Center Northeast. A friend of Maura and an associate attempted to drive Maura to the medical center, but transferred the victim to an EMS vehicle at North Main and East Vance.
The fight was initially triggered by a loud argument over vehicle maintenance at the auction yards. Stewart accused Maura of initialing unclean vehicles with Stewart’s name. The men were forcibly separated by their supervisor before the two temporarily ended their disagreement.
After work Stewart and Maura met away from the job at the Madison Road site. There the war of words, laced with accusations about Stewart stealing cars from work, escalated into violence. Stewart allegedly plunged his industrial box cutter hard into Maura’s back before the victim stumbled into a ditch. While sprawled there, Stewart entered his vehicle and attempted to run over Maura. The victim moved from harm’s way.
Stewart was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill/inflict serious injury (felony). Receiving a $5,000 secured bond, Stewart was booked into the Rowan County Detention Center where he was shortly released.
