♦ On Thursday afternoon the Salisbury Police looking to serve a warrant on another suspect, smelled the tell-tale aroma of “reefer” drifting through a Green Street backyard. As luck would have it, they found Eugene William Black, Jr., 21, of East Fisher Street in Salisbury and a male associate instead.
After a quick check of Black’s cargo shorts they located .45 caliber Haskell JS 45 automatic and a joint containing about a gram of pot. The .45 caliber JS 45 Haskell automatic showed up in the data base as being stolen. Not good for Black, already serving a year’s probation for a January conviction of carrying a concealed weapon.
Black was arrested and charged with a concealed carry gun (.45-caliber Haskell automatic) (felony), possession of stolen goods (.45-caliber Haskell JS 45 automatic) (felony), and possession of a controlled substance schedule (VI) (marijuana) (misdemeanor)
Under a $17,500 secured bond, Black is currently in the Rowan County Detention Center.
Black’s previous criminal record:
Black’s situation illustrates Salisbury, N.C.’s immense challenges with easy-to-obtain “unrecorded” and “stolen” firearms flooding the area and falling into criminal hands.
