♦ Matthew Darrell “Twiggy” Curtner, 32, of Salisbury is behind bars tonight in Raleigh’s Central Prison facing between 21 years (252 months) to a maximum of 30.25 years (363 months) after being convicted of sex crimes with children and dogs. Last week in Rowan County Superior Court, Judge Vance Bradford Long handed down Curtner’s sentence which includes registering as a sex offender and mandatory satellite-based monitoring.
Curtner was convicted on 5 counts of statutory rape/sex offenses (felony), 5 counts of indecent liberties with a child (felony), and a single count of a crime against nature (felony).
Back in March of 2012 the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office learned of possible sexual abuse involving an 11-year girl. The youngster told friends at school that she believed she might be pregnant.
Detectives spoke with the 11-year old who told them that Curtner was molesting her since she was 5. Curtner was said to enter the child’s bedroom at night and threatened to hurt her family if she told anyone.
Detectives confronted Curtner about the allegations and he admitted the sexual molestations. Curtner also admitted being sexually active with neighborhood dogs and the molestation of another female child.
