♦ In the never ending battle with the meth epidemic in Rowan County and Salisbury, N.C., Rowan County Sheriff’s Office deputies uncovered a 10 one-pot “shake and bake” meth lab operation and 2 chlorine gas generators in trailer home on the 1400 block of Canon Street in Rockwell. Late Tuesday deputies showed up at the Cannon Street address to serve a warrant on Betty Jo Linger. Danny Logan came to the door and informed the deputies Linger was not there. The deputies searched the premises and in doing so discovered a chemical odor and smoke coming from one of the rooms. The smell was unmistakable. So was the equipment: a one pot shake and bake meth lab consisting of a bucket, several 2 liter bottles and plastic tubing.
The operation was deemed dangerous enough to evacuate the residence’s occupants Danny Logan, 46, Michael Ray Logan, Sr.,56, Gary Kelly, 24, and Brittany Kelly, 22. Once outside the deputies began questioning the four about the lab, but they claimed they knew nothing about it. A Clandestine Laboratory Safety Officer from the Sheriff’s Office was brought in and quickly identified the operation as a one-pot “shake and bake” meth lab.
Deputies secured the premises overnight and obtained a search warrant on Wednesday. All told when the investigation concluded 10 one pot “shake and bake” meth labs were found plus 2 chlorine gas generators. Methamphetamine manufacture had been going on in the trailer home for some time. “Finished” meth was also located on the premises.
The investigation continues. It’s expected that a number of persons will face meth-manufacturing related charges.
