♦ Since we posted the last article on Slide the City: “Video: “Slide the City” Meets “Jaws”–Some People Don’t Pay Attention to Water Safety Rules”, we’ve received numerous emails about the “Slide the City Rule Sign” posted in the article. People wanted to know what the posted rules actually said and wondered if participants were abiding by them in other cities.
From what we could tell watching videos of a number of “Slide the City” events a fair number of participants were not following the rules which created hazards for others traveling down the water slide. Especially 5-year old to 9-year old youngsters who get in the path of fast moving 250 lb. males or males under the influence of alcohol or substances. It’s a reality that some people simply do not follow rules or read signs. Couple that with untrained young volunteers who oversee safety.
Read the rules posted below and ask yourself is this a good idea?

Please Read Before You Slide the City
• All participants must be 5 years old and 46 inches tall to ride
• NO running, standing, kneeling, tumbling, or stopping on Slide
• All participants must slide with an inflatable tube
• Obey instructions of lifeguard and other staff at all times
• Keep all parts of body within the Slide
• Leave the Slide promptly after coming to a stop
• Exit at the bottom of the Slide unless otherwise directed
• Profanity and unruly behavior are offensive to guests and may be cause for ejection without refund
• Guests are not permitted to save places in line, bypass others, or re-enter after exiting
• NO food or beverages on the Slide
• Pregnant women are prohibited from sliding
• Weapons, sharp objects, illegal contraband, spray paint/aerosol cans, glass bottles, knives, metallic objects, fireworks, and explosives are prohibited.
• NO animals
• NO smoking
• Sliding while under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited
• NO sliding permitted if you have a communicable disease or open wounds or had discharge within 15 days
• No nudity or inappropriate clothing
Are people following the above rules? Are some youngsters too small to be out in slide traffic?
