♦ Vandalism is occurring all over Salisbury especially in the hard hit Downtown area where windows get rocked, cars get spray painted, walls become canvases for roving vandals, and the mural in the Wells Fargo parking lot gets regularly defaced. The “street artists” and “rockers” are making Salisbury’s Downtown area look forbidding and dangerous when its coupled with all those vacant storefronts and trash strewn streets. People drive down Main Street and ask themselves if they really want to stop there.
Within the last few days N.C. House Bill 552 was signed into law, creating a criminal offense out of graffiti vandalism. Many observers view this law as overly optimistic because most vandals are fast moving and practice “hit it n’ quit it” before fading into the urban landscape.
