♦ On Friday a 20 year-old woman walking from Novant Rowan Regional Medical Center at 6:45 p.m. was nearly kidnapped at 11th and North Main in Salisbury. The woman was on her way to her mother’s home in Spencer when a 4-door black sedan pulled up near her and the white male driver asked for directions to “Chick-fil-A”. After replying, the woman continued walking. Moments later the black sedan turned into the cross street and asked the woman if she wanted a ride. She said, “No thanks” and walked on.
Not deterred by her refusal, the driver hiked down his shorts, exposing himself and callingh out, “Whatcha think of this?”
The woman walked faster now. She heard the car door shutting and footfalls behind her. In seconds he was on her, overpowering her and grappling her back into the car.
Two black strangers happened upon the kidnapping in progress and interceded. One took on the perpetrator and forced him back into the sedan while the other accompanied the woman a short distance away. The black sedan sped off.
The two strangers, making conversation, escorted the young woman, still shaken by the incident, almost to her mother’s home in Spencer and then left when she assured them she was out of harm’s way.
The Salisbury police are hunting for the suspect described as a thin white male in his 20’s, approximately 6 feet tall, unshaven with a brown goatee, and sporting a spikey flat-top.
Persons with information about the attempted kidnapping are requested to call the Salisbury Police at (704)-638-5333 or contact Salisbury-Rowan Crime Stoppers at 1-(866)-639-5245.
