♦ Around 2:30 a.m. Friday morning William Henry Smith, 67, of 635 Bernhardt Road in the Salisbury area, allegedly attacked Jonathan Junior Edmisten, Sr. with wooden shovel handle, brutally beating him to the ground and inflicting serious injury. Smith is accused of robbing Edmisten of a $100 and unlawfully restraining his battered victim leading to charges of kidnapping.
Edmisten was transported to an area hospital for emergency treatment.
Smith was arrested and charged with robbery with firearms or other dangerous weapons (felony), assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury (felony), and kidnapping (felony).
Under a $100,000 secured bond, Smith is being held in the Rowan County Detention Center.
