♦ Amanda Michelle Webster, 36, of the 800 block of East Council Street, was arrested in the restroom of Murphy’s Express on 1010 Freeland Drive for allegedly inhaling “gas” from an air duster can on Monday evening.  Salisbury Police were called to Murphy’s Express by a clerk observing that Webster was camped out in the restroom for nearly an hour.  The clerk investigated, finding Webster sitting on the floor and appearing in a stupor and uncomunicative.

When Salisbury Police arrived, they found Webster unresponsive to questions.  The woman had an “air duster” can in her lap and resisted the policeman taking it at first.

Webster was arrested and charged with inhaling fumes for the purpose of causing intoxication (misdemeanor)

Webster agreed to a written promise to appear in court next month.  She has a previous conviction of inhalant intoxication.

Webster’s NC DOJ record:

Although largely seen among teenagers in Salisbury and Rowan County, N.C., abusing inhalants also occurs to a lesser degree among adults.  Many long term inhalant abusers wind up suffering early deaths and as wards of the state due to ravaging neurological effects.  “Air duster” inhaling is a relatively new trend among inhalant abusers.
