♦To the Editor:
I chuckle whenever I see the amateurish political chicanery employed by the “Concerned Citizens of Rowan” in their quest to smear the county commissioners. Its pretty obvious when just about at every county commission meeting some dingbat prances up to the podium and repeats the same weary lines: “The CONTENTIOUS commissioners.” or “I am deeply OFFENDED by prayers in the name of Jesus.” or ” I feel UNWELCOMED at the County Commissioners.” Come now our birthdate was not yesterday. Its beyond the realm of probability that members of a front group, being used by corrupt Salisbury and their friends, keep repeating the same words to try to paint our county commissioners as mean individuals. CONTENTIOUS. OFFENDED. UNWELCOMED.
If the county commissioners are called CONTENTIOUS because they resist signing on a loan to put an overpriced Central Office on sloppy groundwater contaminated infill, then I love CONTENTIOUS.
Anyone, who claims to be highly OFFENDED by prayers in the name of Jesus, comes off manipulative. I hear beliefs I am not in agreement with, but I don’t get OFFENDED by them. There’s something a tad neurotic about being OFFENDED anyway. It sounds like an overreaction to most. Do people who suffer from being OFFENDED possess some sort of hair-trigger neurological mechanism that most of us lack? Get treatment and don’t trifle us with your malady. We are not moved by those who feel OFFENDED.
Now what individual feels UNWELCOMED at a county commission meeting because someone invoked the name of Jesus during a prayer? Do people sit in the commission chamber squirming and feeling alienated because of the use of a name? The county commissioners, from what I see, appear friendly enough. Often they go out into the audience and shake people’s hands. They don’t bark or growl up there. Maybe the commission meetings are too business like? Perhaps the county should employ volunteer greeters to make everyone feel at home and have door prize tickets taped to the bottom of each seat? Someone who feels UNWELCOMED at a meeting may carry around a sense of being left out from their middle school days.
Please Rowan Concerned Citizens or is that Rowan OFFENDED Citizens try to get fresher material to smear our county commissioners with. Try to promote somebody other than people associated with the schools or city hall so they can parasite money off the county for Salisbury’s go nowhere projects.
