♦ Tuesday, sometime after 4 a.m., Charlie Thomas Black, 35, of Torbush Road in Salisbury, was reported to be on his way to Sheetz in his wife’s green Ford F-150 pickup to purchase a pizza. While waiting at a stop sign at McCanless and Bringle Ferry Roads, two cars slid up beside Black and two Black males, brandishing handguns, got out and approached the victim’s pickup. Black, in survival mode, climbed out and told the pair of armed carjackers the pickup was theirs. No hassle. Smart basic survival move. Why resist and become another “unsolved murder” in the Bury?
The carjackers allegedly turned left onto Bringle Ferry Road and sped off into the darkness.
Still shaken by the incident, Black walked to an area nursing home “Autumn Care” where the lights were still on and pounded on the door. Soon Rowan County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the scene.
Black’s wife took a taxi to meet her husband and return him home. Allegedly she scolded him for being out so late. Sheetz isn’t known for serving pizza to “die for”.
The crime remains under investigation. At this time the green Ford F-150 pickup has not been recovered.
